On Thursday 14 August 2025, I had the absolute joy of attending the Sunflower SEND Hub Colour Walk in Haverhill, Suffolk. The event brought together families, children, and the wider community for a morning filled with laughter, colour, and inclusivity.

As a family and children’s photographer based in Haverhill, it was an honour to capture these vibrant moments. I regularly photograph families across Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, but this local event will definitely stay with me as one of the highlights of the year.

Celebrating Inclusion at the Sunflower SEND Hub Colour Walk in Haverhill

The Sunflower SEND Hub does incredible work supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities and their families. The Colour Walk wasn’t just about rainbow powder and colourful t-shirts—it was about belonging. Every child could take part at their own pace, supported by friends, siblings, carers, and the community.

From the moment I arrived at East Town Park, where the event took place, the atmosphere was buzzing. Organisers and volunteers were welcoming families, checking everyone in, and making sure accessibility needs were met. That sense of care and thoughtfulness shone through the whole event.

Why Events Like This Matter for Families in Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire

As a parent myself, I know how important it is for families to have safe, inclusive events where children of all abilities can shine. The Colour Walk in Haverhill brought together families not only from Suffolk but also from Essex and Cambridgeshire. I spoke to people who had travelled from Bury St Edmunds, Saffron Walden, and Cambridge to be part of the day.

The careful planning was clear to see. Children could opt in and out of colour throws, have quieter moments if needed, and still feel completely part of the celebration. It was a true example of what community looks like when everyone is welcomed with open arms.

Capturing Joyful Moments with Yellow Blossom Photography, Haverhill

My camera was kept busy! I split my time between natural, storytelling shots at the event and simple portraits against a backdrop for those who wanted something a little more polished.

Some of my favourite moments were the in-between ones—siblings throwing coloured powder on one another, a parent wiping colour powder from their child’s face, volunteers cheering participants along, and those post-throw giggles that light up a face.

Privacy was handled with care thanks to a wristband system. Families could choose whether they wanted to be photographed, which allowed everyone to relax and enjoy themselves.

Events like this remind me why I love being part of the Haverhill community. The organisation, the volunteers, and the families all created something so special. A huge thank you to Sophie, Tina, and the entire Sunflower SEND Hub team—you created more than just a fundraiser, you created memories families will hold onto forever.
