It has been a little while since I last sat down to write a blog post, but life in the studio has been so wonderfully busy the past few months! Between meeting new tiny babies and seeing my regular families grow, I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes a photo session truly special.
When you look for a family photographer around or in Haverhill, you have a lot of choices. But for me, photography isn't just about clicking a button, it’s about the experience.
More Than Just an Appointment
I’ve never been a fan of the "in and out" sessions. You know the ones, where you feel like you’re on a conveyor belt, rushed in and rushed out so the next person can start.
There is nothing worse than a session where the photographer doesn’t even know your name, calls your children "Child 1" and "Child 2," and spends the whole time telling you to "sit still and smile for the camera." To me, that’s not a lovely photography experience, and it’s definitely not how you capture real, honest smiles!
I want to know your names, your kids' favorite songs, and the things that make them giggle. Because when you feel like a person and not just a time slot, that is when the magic happens.
Whether you are here for a full newborn session or one of my quick pop-in sessions, my goal is the same: I want you to feel at home.
We Go at Your Pace
I always make sure we have time to have a chat before I even pick up my camera. I never like to rush, so you can be sure there is plenty of time for everyone to settle in. I also want to let you in on a little secret: If things go completely pear-shaped on the day, we can always try again on a different day. I want you to come to your session feeling happy and excited, not stressed and worried that something might go wrong.
My studio is a no-pressure zone. This is so important for:
- Shy Toddlers: They often need a few minutes to realise the studio is a fun place to be.
- New Mums: Who might need a moment to catch their breath (and maybe have a quick cuddle or a feed with the baby).
- Nervous Parents: Who worry their kids won't behave. Please don't worry, I love the wild and silly moments! Some of the very best photos are the spontaneous ones that happen when you’re just being yourselves.
You Have My Full Attention
I don’t book standard studio sessions back-to-back because you deserve my full focus. I limit my sessions to a maximum of two a day (or just one for newborns). This means that if we need to pause for a snack or a break, we do it! I want you to leave my studio thinking, "That was actually really fun," rather than feeling stressed.
Your family’s story is unique, and it deserves more than a rushed time slot. It deserves a relaxed, personal experience that results in photos you will cherish forever.
